We interrupt this program for...

TURQUOISE! Ok... so I know I said I was going to post more on stenciling... but I have been completely sidetracked by the color turquoise! While surfing in cyberworld, I have come across the loveliest blog at www.houseofturquoise.com.

I love turquoise and was energized just by looking at it in all sorts of rooms and spaces.
Then... (I swear I do get off the computer and occasionally clean the house), I found an office painted the perfect shade of turquoise at www.brooklynlimestone.blogspot.com/search/label/office. Seriously... I was drooling.

So...I made the immediate decision to paint my studio walls in the beautiful Benjamin Moore "Waterfall" (above) that is on the Brooklyn Limestone Blog. When I say "studio".... I really should clarify. "Studio" means "boring room that holds my paint stuff". There is nothing exotic here folks. This is the intended guest bedroom in our basement that has excellent lighting and a door to the backyard. It really is perfect for my paint room. But, it is NOT pretty. And I like things pretty.

Actually, I hate my paint room. Ok... so "hate" is a really strong word. I passionately dislike this room in my home. Do any of you have a room that you would just like to scratch and start over???? If I work in this room every day ( I do samples, assemble product for the next day, mix colors, etc.).... I feel like it should inspire me.

So, I dress my daughter Ava in turquoise today just for the occasion and go get the paint. I swear I was giddy getting rid of the white and seeing COLOR on these blah walls. With every new section I painted, I just kept wondering why have I never painted this space that I so dislike? Paint is cheap! We have been in this house for 5 years and I have just ignored this corner of my home.

Perhaps it was a combination of other rooms being the priority, lack of time (or at least not MAKING the time), or lack of energy???? (three kids will do that to ya!)

At one point, I did get a little shocked at the boldness of the color. I had to give MYSELF the pep talk I always give my clients:

1) It's only paint.... we can go over it if we don't like it.
2) Rooms other than the public areas in your home are great for bold colors.

3) Walls always look different when the tape is pulled and things are back up on the walls.

Which will eventually bring me to Part II of my "Project Turquoise". I want to actually put some pretty stuff up on my walls in the paint room. I am planning on framing a bunch of the kids artwork in black frames. I also scrapbook, so I am hoping to keep some of my scrapbook things in the room. I will post before and after shots when I am done!

I have other rooms in my home that I also want to redo.... the family room in the basement and my laundry room. My goal is to repaint all 3 in 2009. I am committed to making these rooms I enjoy.

So tell me.... do you have a room in your house that you "passionately dislike"?

The gym that I used to work out in was painted that color. I LOVED it! Sometimes I would just stare at the black furniture against it...I also loved the white trim around the doors. I always thought it was the most amazing color and felt so good every time I saw it.
I hate my "office" too. It's so cluttered and ugly...no inspiration at all!

Also, I forgot to mention...I was obsessed with turquoise almost 2 years ago and I got teased about it. I don't know what it is...but it's one of the "cleaniest, restful" colors I know.

Thanks for the shout-out to House of Turquoise!! I'm so happy to meet another turquoise lover. I can't wait to see the completion of Project Turquoise!

Obviously, I love the color. Its so bright and fun. I think its a little harsh when you see just the paint...you need to add the layers of furniture, fabric and art on the walls before it looks right.

Love the color! Your daughter is adorable by the way. I have one room in my house that drives me crazy it's the guest bathroom. After painting and the repainting a variety of chocolate browns on the wall I finally found the perfect one, but now I can't stand the shower curtain. It's just going to have to be a work in progress :-) Love your blog!

Gracious! First off - we just came accross your blog off - well somewhere, because they were showing those fabulous cream distressed kitchen cupboards (need to know how you do that!) and then we went and saw your current post - YES! Last fall we were junking & antiquing...and EVERYTHING I bought was TURQUOISE - love, love, love it - so we are totally with you here!!
Great blog!

I love all your faux finishes and the "new" vesion of stencils. I never was a big fan on the old-timey kind but this new batch is AWESOME. The turqoise is absolutely beautiful. If you look at my blog you'll see I'm NOT afraid of color. My motto is ....if you own it paint it. and I've been known to paint things when I just leased them too..usually the landlord was happy and it was a vast improvement to the property!

You being taken aback at the bold color is like a dentist being scared of a shot. Ha!

Glad to see the turquoise...it is a great color!
